UHaul 800# Reservations are Lies

2.0
Details
WARNING: Avoid making reservations via UHaul website or their 800#. The reservations are bogus and cannot be relied upon to secure a truck at the appointed time. Their site information is totally unreliable and the 800# phone agents will take your reservation and CC number and issue a confirmation number which has no reliability in fact. At your requested pick up date there is no guarantee whatsoever that your "reserved" vehicle will be on site. They will, however, say "We're sorry". Yeah, that's a lot of help! You are warned!!! If they are short of trucks and your request is for 3 days and they later get a rental for 7 days guess who gets the truck?

Uhaul - Website Review from Stowe, Vermont

Four years ago I became a uhaul dealer in the toronto ontario area. For the first four years our revenues were roughly the same, around five thousand in commisions. This year the corporate head office kept taking the trucks that came to our location so our revenues dropped drastically to just a few hundred dollars. During our tenure as a uhaul dealer we had many furious customers yelling into our phones at our offices because Uhaul central traffic changed their truck size or canceled their reservation. Believe me standing there and listening to hostile customers swear at uhaul is absolutely terrible. Now when we have stopped being a dealer, Uhaul refuses to take us off their website. It has been over two months and we are still getting 4 -5 calls a day from people wanting to rent a truck. We have notified uhaul countless times and they just ignore our requests to be removed from their site. Uhaul is a pathetic company. I wish I had never had any dealings with them

First off, I reserved online 2 weeks before I needed a 17' truck and tow dolly. Oh, don't reserve online because your local U-Haul location won't get the "reservation" until 24 hours before the day you are suppose to pick up your equipment.....in fact don't reserve at...

Uhaul in Montreal, Quebec - Disgraceful Company

False advertizing on the website! Booked a truck over the phone for flat rate of $19.95. A day before the reservation date, received phone call that no truck available. Had to change the date, plus they never told me the new rate. $29.95 hourly! From $19.95 to $119.80. Worst company that I’ve ever dealt with. Very disgraceful. The price at your time of rental should have been 19.95 and either .69 or .99 cents a mile depending on what day you rented. If you reserved a 19.95 truck and they had to upgrade you it is company policy to give the larger truck at the same price.

Also, no Uhaul center or dealer rents trucks for $x per hour. You need to call 1800 go uhaul with the name ont he rental contract and the name of the place that charged you, having your receipt would be very useful.

Simply ask someone to explain your charges. If you have been ***, be assured that U-haul will ocmpensate you for it.

Uhaul - The Switcheroo

I booked a 20' truck 2 months in advance. 3 days before my pickup of that truck they switch me to a 26' truck. The reason for me booking a 20' truck was based on space but mostly fuel consumption seeing as how I am traveling 1450 km's to my destination. Uhaul is telling me that a 20' truck will get the same mileage as a 26' truck with exactly the same payload. I find this unbelievable. I am a Commercial Transport mechanic by trade. Sure the website says 10 miles per gallon on all of them but I don't buy that. I now have to budget for more fuel on my trip for a vehicle that I didn't even originally book. I called customer service and first they offered me a $20 gift card. Not acceptable. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that there was nothing they could do. The attitude of the manager is why I am posting this. I told him that I was going to cancel my booking and go with another company. His answer was oh "oh well go ahead". A $2100.00 sale gone. Unbelievable in my eyes. I will never use Uhaul again and hope that others using Uhaul or thinking of using them, think twice or at least do there homework.

My name is Maria Palmisano and I am with U-Haul International. I first want to offer you my apology for the inconvenience you experienced.

We realize moving can be stressful in itself without the added frustration of trying to secure the exact size equipment you reserved. Having to substitute a different size of equipment to fill the reservation can be due to a number of reasons and include the previous renter not returning on time or dropping off at a different location, as well as equipment malfunction. Although we strive for 100% satisfaction, there are times we may need to substitute a different size of equipment or offer an alternate pick up location. Our Technical Center shows both the 20' and the 26' trucks get approximately 10 mpg, depending on the weight of the load and terrain.

I am concerned about the rude treatment you experienced and would like the oopportunity to follow up on that information to ensure our customers are receiving the quality of service they have come to expect and deserve from U-Haul. Please contact me back at maria_palmisano@uhaul.com and provide me with the name of the lessee you listed on the reservation and the address of the location involved.

It is only through communication with our customers that we realize which programs are working and what areas need attention. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Uhaul in Huntington Station, New York - Rip off

U haul is a complete rip off. over charged me for gas and a 2nd day I did not use. DONT USE THEM !!! They are a scam and always overcharge. when i called customer service to complain i was put on hold for 20 minutes and hung up on by a rude representative. This is unbelievable, I will never rent from U haul again. Next time i will use another rental company that respects their customers. I am trying to use the 100 word minimum here which is a little annoying. this is just fluff to reach the 100 word minimum it takes just to submitt a complaint on this website.

I always love the people who get pissed off because they require 100 words to post a complaint. Any idea why this is?

No? Of course you don't know.... You're beyond stoopppid... The 100 word limit is required to insure you provide as much detail about the issue as possible.

If you can write an argument in less than 100 words, then you clearly don't have much of one. A well educated person knows what it takes to compose a proper argument and the one you provided lacks detail and organization. To WRITE THEY OVERCHARGED ME RAWAWAWARA RAWRAWRA does absolutely nothing, just shows how you failed at educating yourself.

Education is no one else responsibility but your own. It has nothing to do with school, however, seeing how they force you to go to school until you're 18 might as well get something out of it.

I ran into a similar problem from U haul. So, instead I went to their U Haul Boxes Exchange Forum and met someone from my area who was selling their old u haul boxes and saved a bunch of dough. It is so much better than u haul itself because it organizes everything...

You don't have to buy any box, whether from U-Haul or not. There are recycling groups out there that gives away moving boxes.

They may be second-hand but it's still up to the consumer's preference to choose between used and new. Check out Freecycle or Craiglist.

By the way, U-Haul also has a Give-a-Box, Leave-a-Box program. It is the same concept as recyling used boxes. Anyone can leave used boxes.

And anyone could get it for free. There are designated locations so you only need to do the research which ones are near you.
