Last month we reserved a sport uhaul trailer 2 weeks before we needed to use it. At the time there was one located within 5 miles of us.

When we went to pick it up, we were told they upgraded us at no extra charge to a 4x8 trailer that was actually $7.00 a day cheaper. We were told that someone from UHaul had come in the previous week and taken the trailer to another one of their locations even though we had reserved it the week before and had reserved it for a week.

When we called the "customer service" number, we were told to either take the 4x8 which we did not want or we could drive 2 hours to get the nearest sport trailer. Bottom line - take it or leave it - they did not care if we were happy or not.

No company is going to insist that a piece of rental equipment just sit two weeks because you wanted it later. That's tieing it up 3 weeks for 1 weeks rental. If you wanted to guarantee availability then you should have rented it for the whole 3 weeks.

"Reserved" means a contract to have the equipment available, and in return for this assurance, they charge you ahead of time. It's technically breach of contract, but good luck getting $250 from Uhaul in small claims court.
